In addition to her busy performing schedule, Jessica is an active teacher of voice and piano. She maintained private studios in Canada and Germany and loves to impart her musical knowledge to students from various musical backgrounds. While most active in the classical music community, she also has experience teaching students from other singing traditions, including jazz, musical theatre, and popular music. Since music has always been a source of great joy in her life, she aims to provide a fun, open, and encouraging environment in which her students can freely explore, experiment, and discover.
Jessica aims to help her students in a variety of technical and practical ways. Vocal students will work to improve pitch recognition and accuracy, breath control, vocal range, vocal
timbre and production, musical style, posture and alignment, and diction. Piano students will work to build hand and finger strength, hone musical style, discover pedal technique and learn to sing through the piano. Jessica’s professional experience with languages enables her to teach her students to sing in English, German, Italian, Spanish, Latin, and French. Jessica is also able to prepare her students for Royal Irish Academy of Music examinations, auditions, and performances.
Jessica obtained a Master of Music from the University of Toronto Opera Division, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Manitoba. She also holds an A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has received additional training from Oper Frankfurt, Calgary Opera, the Toronto Summer Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Aspen Music Festival, St. Andrews by the Sea and Opera NUOVA. Jessica currently studies voice with acclaimed soprano Nelly Miricioiu, and has also studied with Wendy Nielsen, Lorna MacDonald, Valdine Anderson, and Marilyn Horne.
Jessica has won prizes from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Canadian National Music Festival, the WMC McLellan Competition, the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, the George London Foundation, the Marilyn Horne Song Competition, the Houston Grand Opera McCollum Competition, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Vancouver Opera Guild, the Solti Foundation, and the Sylva Gelber Music Foundation.
